Face Time with Dane James, Vice President of Sales


He just joined the team in July, but already, Dane James’ Restaurant.com colleagues consider him a polished professional, a strong leader and someone with deep knowledge of developing and managing teams.

Dane comes to Restaurant.com from Essendant, Inc.—a major supplier of workplace essentials—and spent his career managing teams of all sizes.


Positions at national brands such as DISCOVER, Visa, First Data and Bank of America give him an advantage in marketing management and planning, identifying market trends, and developing strategic partnerships.

He sees himself as a customer advocate with a passion for developing sales staff by identifying and giving them tools to help customers succeed. This philosophy allows customers to achieve the best possible results.

“I’m customer focused—an advocate for the customer,” he said. “I strive to help the sales team be more successful. Because when our team wins, our customers win.”

At Restaurant.com, Dane sees the advantage of a dining incentives program that appeals to all types of consumers. He plans to use this advantage to help businesses grow—in fact his three-year goal is to help twice as many businesses build their incentives and loyalty programs.

He knows meeting that goal may be challenging, but he prides himself on being competitive and finding winning solutions. Yet he’s not competitive at all costs and holds himself—and his team—to high standards.


“I pride myself on leading with integrity and a strong sense of ethics,” he said.

Even before joining the team, Dane was a fan of Restaurant.com. For years, he and his wife, Lori — self-proclaimed “frugal foodies”—used the Restaurant.com to dine out, bond with family and friends, and stick to a budget.

His favorite place to dine out is Ristorante Abruzzo near his Deerfield home (which happens to be a Restaurant.com partner) for its Bolognese. He said it’s even better than the version his wife cooks at home.

When he’s not in the office, Dane enjoys playing golf and paddle tennis, and watching his sons Trent (a high school junior) and Parker (who’s on the soccer team at DePaw University) play sports.
